Victorious over Nigeria, Ivory Coast wins its third African Cup of Nations.
Ivory Coast is champion of the African Cup of Nations after overthrowing Nigeria (2-1) this Sunday February 11, 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Ébimpé, in the suburbs of Abidjan. If Oshimen’s teammates managed to open the scoring, the host team was able to turn the situation around to win its third CAN.
Indeed, the Nigerians opened the scoring with Troost-Ekong (39th). They resisted the onslaught of Ivorian players who tried everything to get back into the match in the first half. At 1-0, Nigeria thought they did everything during the first 45 minutes.
Nigeria would regret its wait-and-see attitude in the second period. Ivory Coast did not lower its flag in front of its public to initially score the equalizing goal by Franck Kessié (62nd) who set the clock straight and at the same time restarted the match.
Eight minutes from the end, Haller sealed the fate of the match by scoring the second goal for Ivory Coast who found the necessary resources to come back and win this final so awaited by all of Africa.
At home, Ivory Coast reigned with victory, an important success which allowed Didier Drogba’s former selection to win their third star.
