Kenyan President Ruto pledges support to Presidential Council

The President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, expressed his support for the installation, this Thursday, April 25, of the Presidential Transitional Council in Haiti, affirming Kenya’s commitment to supporting the country towards new leadership.

“The CPT has the singular task of acting quickly to restore the key organs of the State essential to the restoration of public order and necessary for the advent of hope for all Haitians, as prescribed by the decree of 12 April 2024,” Ruto said via his account on X (formerly Twitter).

Made up of nine members, the council officially took the reins of the country this Thursday, following the resignation of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

“In implementing the road map contained in this political agreement, Kenya is ready and willing, in concert with a broad alliance of African and CARICOM nations, committed to the stability of Haiti, to implement “Quickly implement the security support infrastructure envisioned by UN Security Council 2699 (2023). Kenya assures Haiti’s CPT of its full support as it guides the country through this complex interregnum.” , Ruto added.

Michel Patrick Boisvert, the resigning Minister of Economy and Finance, will serve as interim prime minister until the Presidential Transitional Council appoints a new prime minister, sets up a cabinet and establishes a provisional electoral council in view of the next elections in the country.

Recall that Kenya has committed to sending a contingent of 1,000 police officers to assist the Haitian police in their training and their action aimed at restoring order and protecting essential property, as part of a sustained operation by the UN Security Council.
