Do members of the National Confederation of Haitian Vodouists (KNVA) plan to maintain the choice of lawyer Newton Louis Saint-Juste as the sector’s representative on the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) or do they intend to designate a new delegate on behalf of the new electoral structure?
In a letter addressed to the president of the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT), the national Ati, the hougan Prosper Louis-Dor declared that he was officially awaiting the executive’s correspondence from the CPT to designate its representative to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
The KNVA document, consulted by Rezo Nòdwès, underlines the importance of the four elements which are fire, water, earth and air, in the voodoo pantheon, considered as governing principles of nature. For the national Ati, the hougan Prosper Louis-Dor, the KNVA is the only one recognized as a structure, set up by various organizations in the sector, to be able to supervise voodoo practices and the preservation of “ginen” traditions and rites.
While congratulating the members of the CPT for their commitment to working towards the restoration of republican institutions, the KNVA affirms its availability and expresses its willingness to participate actively in all efforts aimed at restoring the rule of law, the text underlines.
In view of these considerations, the KNVA is eagerly awaiting the invitation letter to participate in the establishment of a new electoral institution.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Transitional Executive, the choice of the sector delegate must be made after consultations between leaders of the KNVA, the Vodou Kingdom of Haiti, Zanfan tradisyon ayisyen (ZANTRAY) and the Aksyon pou jèn vodou avanse (AJAV).
It is important to remember that in April 2023, the KNVA had chosen lawyer Newton Louis-Juste as the representative of the voodoo sector in the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), version Dr Ariel Henry. The electoral institution that was to organize general elections to renew political personnel never saw the light of day.
