On June 20, on the occasion of the Music Festival, the Haitian konpa resonated for the first time in the prestigious hall of the Real Sociedad Económica Matritense in Madrid. This event, the result of a collaboration between the Haitian Embassy and the Academy of Diplomacy, was marked by the captivating performance of the musical group Eritaj, directed by Lentz Louis.
Haitian Ambassador Guy Lamothe highlighted the importance of konpa in Haitian culture and promoted its candidacy for UNESCO as an intangible world heritage.
Made up of five members, this group, operating between Santiago and Port-au-Prince, was able to captivate the Madrid audience with its captivating rhythms, thus inaugurating the reception of Caribbean music in this emblematic venue.
The former Spanish ambassador to Haiti, Manuel Hernandez, opened the evening with a video message saluting Haitian values and arts. Alongside Hernandez, José Luis Izaguirre and Antonio Garcia Gonzalez took the opportunity to offer guests an overview of Haitian history.
The evening, punctuated by vibrant performances by the group Eritaj, strengthened the links between Haitian and Spanish cultures, demonstrating the universal power of music to celebrate cultural diversity.
