The Minister of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP), Augustin Antoine, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Taiwan to Haiti, Richard Wen-Jiann Ku, on Thursday, July 18. This meeting, held at the premises of the Taiwanese Embassy in Morne Calvaire, provided an opportunity to discuss educational cooperation between Haiti and Taiwan, with a particular focus on school infrastructure, the strengthening of public schools and early childhood education, according to a government statement.

The issue of the construction of the Lycée d’excellence in Quartier Morin, financed by Taiwan to the tune of 16 million dollars, was at the heart of the discussions. The two parties explored ways to relaunch this crucial project for the strengthening of the public school system in the North.

In addition, Minister Antoine stressed the importance of integrating technological tools into Haitian public schools, drawing inspiration from Taiwanese good practices, the statement reported. He also expressed his intention to contribute to the development of early childhood education.

For his part, Ambassador Ku affirmed his willingness to explore new areas of cooperation in education, in line with Haiti’s national priorities. Antoine promised to closely follow these files with the country’s highest authorities in order to advance these projects in accordance with the framework of cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting was attended by the Minister’s Chief of Staff, Mr. JR Dossaint, and the First Secretary of the Embassy of Taiwan, Bao-Neng Lee. At the end of the discussions, Minister Antoine and Ambassador Ku committed to staying in touch to follow up on the discussions and next steps for these important educational projects, the statement said.
