Former senator Gracia Delva was heard this Thursday, May 9, 2024 by investigating judge Merlan Belabre in the context of a corruption case linked to the allocation of debit cards and the management of property in the Senate of Haiti. Gracia Delva maintains her innocence, her lawyer asserts that the latter did not have 5 vehicles in his possession as indicated by the ULCC in its report.
In its report, the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) recommended criminal proceedings against the former elected representative of Artibonite for misappropriation of public property. The institution had specified that Gracia Delva had in his possession 5 vehicles even though he is no longer a senator. Except that Gracia Delva and her lawyer point out that this is false.
At the end of this hearing, former senator Gracia Delva said he answered the questions he could answer from judge Merlan Bélabre. Me Jean Renel Francen, one of Gracia Delva’s lawyers, affirmed that his client did not own any of the vehicles mentioned by the ULCC and that the Senate’s logistics service was aware of their location.

Marie Nelly Verpile Boyer, Secretary General of the Senate, was released on May 9, 2024, one week after being placed in custody by order of investigating judge Merlan Belabre. This release, according to information reaching the editorial staff, comes after a request for a show of hands made by his lawyers. Many supporters and sympathizers gathered near the investigating office to support the SG.
This arrest was carried out as part of the investigation into the alleged corruption scandal surrounding the management of assets in the Senate of the Republic and the granting of debit cards. She was arrested following her hearing by the investigating magistrate.
