Political activist Myrthil Marcelin alias “Arab” was transferred this Friday, February 16, 2024 to the National Penitentiary, after being arrested Monday, February 12 in Les Cayes. His transfer was carried out after his hearing by two prosecutors at the Delmas 33 police station. The information was confirmed by his lawyer, Me Arnel Rémy.
The lawyer recalls that a habeas corpus action had been brought by Arab’s defense counsel. In this sense, the political activist will appear in court next Monday, February 19.
Arab was invited to appear at the Port-au-Prince public prosecutor’s office on Friday February 9, 2024 at ten in the morning according to a warrant of appearance dated February 5, 2024. He had refused this invitation from the public prosecutor’s office. His arrest is considered illegal and arbitrary by his political comrades.
