FEMI Festival: “N ap boule” voted Best short film of the year

During the 28th edition of FEMI, Regional and International Cinema Festival of Guadeloupe, the Haitian short film “N ap Boule” was awarded the Best Short Film prize. The news was announced on the film’s Facebook page this Monday, April 29, 2024.

“N ap Boule” tells the moving story of a taxi driver named Jean, whose wife is about to give birth during a curfew in Haiti. Due to the challenges posed by a country in chaos, with barricades, fires and bandits, Jean finds himself racing against time to get his wife to the hospital and save the lives of his wife and her husband. their unborn child.

Directed by Alexandrine Benjamin, “N ap boule” stars Kenny Laguerre and Ericka Jean-Louis. Since its premiere in Portugal as part of the 19th edition of the New Directors New Films Festival, the short film has traveled the world via Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Toronto, Florida before recently going to Guadeloupe where it obtained the prize for Best Short Film at the FEMI Festival.

The FEMI Festival, Guadeloupe International Cinema Festival, organized by the “Images and Cultures of the World” association since 1992, has the mission of promoting cinematographic works and filmmakers from the Antilles-Guyana and the Caribbean. The coronation of “N ap Boule” within this 28th edition of the festival proves once again not only the recognition of Haitian cinema and the determination of our directors who, often, produce in difficult conditions.

After several selections, this award rewards the hard work of the “N ap Boule” team who shared a moving story with audiences from different backgrounds. Times are dark but good news always brings us a little hope. By winning the Best Short Film award at the FEMI Festival, “N ap Boule” reminds us that chaos is not what defines us, that our talents and creativity can still fly our flag internationally while generating discussions on themes such as resilience and determination in the face of obstacles.
