Six men convicted of plotting to assassinate Haitian President Jovenel Moïse will have to pay $6.2 million to his widow and eldest son, according to an order from a federal judge in Miami.
According to the Florida media, it remains uncertain how much of this sum the family will actually receive, because among the condemned, only one has property.
For Miami Herald, the compensation order presents a touch of irony: Martine Moïse, considered a “victim” by the American authorities, while she is accused in Haiti of having participated in the plot against her husband.
This information was made public by the Herald in an article published this Friday, June 7, 2024, revealing that the widow of Jovenel Moïse received compensation of 5.3 million US dollars for medical expenses after the assassination of her husband, event during which she was hit by projectiles in the arm, according to her testimonies.
