Buildings in the Digneron industrial park, located in Croix-des-Bouquets and renowned as one of the jewels of the Palm Apparel Group, were set on fire on Friday March 29, 2024.

According to information reported by Le Nouvelliste, individuals described as bandits entered the grounds of this complex, the first phase of construction of which required an investment of more than 15 million dollars. Their action resulted in the fire of a 96,000 square foot warehouse, housing raw materials essential to industrial activity.

In addition to this devastating fire, the criminals also invaded the production premises, covering 200,000 square feet, where they caused significant damage. Georges B. Sassine, former president of the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), cited by Le Nouvelliste, deplored this series of attacks, declaring that offices as well as several industrial machines were destroyed in the process.

It is important to emphasize that the Digneron industrial park had already been closed since 2022, following cases of employee kidnappings. This recent attack has exacerbated concerns, especially since Georges B. Sassine questioned the logic of these acts of vandalism. “We are burning schools, pharmacies. We are vandalizing hospitals. I don’t understand anything. I only wonder how far this will go?”, he expressed, expressing his dismay at the current situation.
