Following the commitments made by the Prime Minister, Dr Ariel Henry, the Government of the Republic announces that the Decree creating the Presidential Transitional Council was adopted by the Council of Ministers and published today Friday April 12, 2024 in the official newspaper Le Moniteur .

The personalities designated by the stakeholders to be part of the said Council are invited to submit to the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers the documents required in accordance with article 2 of the aforementioned decree. The documents must be submitted in a sealed envelope, either to the National Palace or to the Prime Minister’s Office, Villa d’Accueil, in Bourdon.

Note that France and Canada support the presidential council and call for the rapid deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission.

In a joint statement released following a meeting Thursday in Ottawa, the prime ministers of France and Canada, respectively Justin Trudeau and Gabriel Attal, expressed their support for the Presidential Transitional Council, calling on it to form a government once in place.

Gabriel Attal undertook a 3-day official visit to Ottawa through which he met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. During a meeting this Thursday, the leaders discussed the major issues weighing on the global geopolitical scene. Canada and France reaffirmed their mutual commitment to mobilizing the international community to support the efforts of Haitians in their quest to restore security. They expressed deep concern about the security crisis in Haiti and the suffering endured by the population.

In this context, the two countries encouraged the Presidential Transitional Council, once installed, to form a government and put in place institutions “enabling the restoration of security and progress as quickly as possible towards the organization of transparent elections. , equitable and credible for the benefit of the Haitian population.”

Furthermore, France and Canada stressed the urgency of deploying the Multilateral Security Support Mission in Haiti (MMSS) in order to provide support to the Haitian National Police in its fight against organized crime.
