“The Fall Guy,” starring Ryan Gosling who left the world of “Barbie” for this action film, topped the North American box office for its first weekend of release, according to estimates Sunday from the specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.

David Leitch’s feature film, loosely inspired by a 1980s television series (“The Falling Man”), shows the Canadian actor as a seasoned stuntman who must recover from a serious injury sustained during a filming to save a former conquest, played by the British Emily Blunt, from a mysterious but very real threat.

Released on Friday, it has since accumulated $28.5 million in revenue in theaters in the United States and Canada – a rather small amount compared to its approximately $130 million budget, analysts estimate.

In second comes, from the dark side of the force, “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace” with 8.1 million for a return to theaters, 25 years after the original release of George Lucas’ film.

On the 3rd step of the podium is, with 7.6 million, the film which was in the lead last week: “Challengers”, worn by the American star Zendaya. The 27-year-old actress and singer plays a tennis prodigy at the center of a love triangle in this subversive drama, in which rivalry, friendship and love intertwine.

It’s a horror film that places in 4th place, “The Cards of Evil”, with 6.5 million dollars in revenue – despite bad reviews, that’s a pretty good figure, considering its budget of 8 million.

The feature film “Godzilla x Kong: The New Kingdom” follows, with 4.5 million dollars. The film sees the immense reptile and the famous gorilla this time fighting side by side.

Here is the rest of the top 10:

6 – “Civil War” (3,6 millions)

7 – “Unsung Hero” (3 millions)

8 – “Kung Fu Panda 4” (2,4 millions)

9 – “Abigail” (2,3 millions)

10 – “Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace” (1.8 million)
