The government announces emergency measures following the tragedy at Barrière Bouteille

In an official statement issued from the National Palace on May 3, 2024, the Presidential Council expressed its deep sadness and solidarity with the victims of the recent floods that hit the country’s second city, particularly the locality of Barrière Bouteille, in the Far North. , where around ten people lost their lives after a landslide.

Indeed, the members of the Council paid tribute to the numerous lives lost and the considerable material damage caused by this disaster. They also instructed the resigned government, led by the interim Prime Minister Michel Patrick Boisvertto take all necessary measures to help the victims and the families of the missing.

In collaboration with advisors from the Far North, the Presidential Council called on residents of risk areas to scrupulously follow the security instructions issued by the Directorate of Civil Protection and local authorities.

Finally, the Council reaffirmed its determination to improve the living conditions of the entire population, promising to do everything possible to prevent such tragedies in the future.

It should be remembered that torrential rains hit the city of Cap-Haitien last week, causing a devastating landslide in Labori, located in Barrière-Bouteille. According to a partial report communicated to Juno7 by Mayor Yvrose Pierre, nine lifeless bodies, including 5 girls and 4 boys, were found. Five houses were completely destroyed.
