Steve Bannon, a Trump ally, must turn himself in to prison by July 1 to begin serving his sentence for contempt of court, a judge has ruled.

Longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon is due to report to prison by July 1 to serve his four-month sentence for defying a subpoena from the House committee that investigated the attack on the United States Capitol.

District Judge Carl Nichols on Thursday granted prosecutors’ request to have Steve Bannon begin serving his prison sentence, after a three-judge panel of a federal appeals court upheld last month his conviction for contempt of Congress.

However, Mr. Nichols also clarified in his decision that Mr. Bannon could request a stay, which could delay the date of his surrender to justice.

At trial, Mr. Bannon’s lawyer argued that the charges were politically motivated.
