Previously, Mr. Hankins served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, from 2010 to 2012, and at the United States Embassy in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from 2007 to 2010.

He also served as Deputy Director of the Department of State’s Office of Peacekeeping in the Bureau of International Organizations from 2005 to 2007, Consul General at the United States Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2004 to 2005 and Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique from 2001 to 2004.
