The Caribbean and North Atlantic region officially launches the hurricane season, promising to be particularly active and potentially devastating. With the imminent arrival of intense weather events, such as hurricanes and tropical storms, it is imperative for residents of the region to mobilize and prepare adequately. Up to 39 cyclonic phenomena between June and November 2024, more than double that of a typical year, announced one of the world’s most famous climatologists, Michael Mann.

The list of names expected for this hurricane season are as follows: Alberto – Beryl – Chris – Debby – Ernesto – Francine – Gordon – Helene – Isaac – Joyce – Kirk – Leslie – Milton – Nadine – Oscar – Patty – Rafael – Sara – Tony – Valerie – William.

In Haiti, a particularly vulnerable country, natural challenges are exacerbated by socio-economic, political and security difficulties. Current instability and insecurity increase vulnerability to storms and hurricanes.

Faced with this situation, an urgent call for action is launched to strengthen the preparedness and resilience of Haitian communities. It is crucial that preventive measures are put in place to minimize human and material losses. The combined efforts of local authorities, civil society organizations, humanitarian organizations and the international community are essential to establish effective emergency plans, strengthen infrastructure and provide rapid assistance to affected populations.
