Johnny Placide equals a historic record in Ligue 2

By Mythsouka Jean-Philippe

This April 23, 2024, during the 34th day of Ligue 2, Johnny Placide inscribed his name in the annals of Haitian football in France. By reaching the impressive figure of 171 matches played in Ligue 2, Placide joins the legendary Jean-Jacques Pierre at the top of this statistic. From the first steps of Joe Gaetjens in the 1950s, through illustrious names like Claudel Legros, Wilner Nazaire and Jeff Louis, to himself, Placide has left his mark on history.

The Haitian goalkeeper marked this memorable day with a brilliant performance, keeping his clean sheets in the victory against Concarneau. This clean sheet is not only an individual achievement, but also a testimony to Placide’s positive impact on his team.

In the coming weeks, Placide could well become the only holder of this record, leaving behind his compatriot Jean-Jacques Pierre. His dedication, skill and perseverance make him not only an exceptional player, but also a role model for the young generation of Haitian footballers in France.
