The Haitian embassy in Chile honored several personalities from the Haitian diaspora

On the occasion of the national day of the Haitian diaspora celebrated every April 20, the Haitian embassy in Chile took advantage of this opportunity to honor several personalities including the skater Gesny Pierre Louis who recently won a new title in Chile. This national day aims to highlight the efforts made by compatriots outside the country to hold the flame of freedom wherever they go.

In his speech for the occasion, the Ambassador Wedlyne François Pierrecongratulates members of the diaspora in Chile and encourages them to support their families in Haiti.

“I am particularly proud to point out that the Haitian diaspora in Chile has been one of the largest providers of transfers in Haiti for several years now. This financial solidarity demonstrates our attachment to our families and our homeland. I therefore urge you to continue to support your loved ones in Haiti, as they greatly depend on our help to overcome the difficulties they face.”

Further in her statements, she invites Haitian citizens in Chile to also integrate. “I also encourage you to go beyond financial aid. Together we can strengthen our community here in Chile by showcasing our talents, skills and creativity”she said, while encouraging her compatriots to transmit Haitian cultural heritage and tradition to their offspring.

During this ceremony, Ambassador Wedlyne François also addressed the subject of criminal records.

“Just as the negotiations between the embassy and the Chilean authorities have led to good results in terms of family reunification, I will continue to discuss with the relevant authorities so that we can reach a solution to the problem of criminal records. The objective is to allow Haitians who have lived in Chile for more than 3 years to use the Chilean judicial register instead of the Haitian judicial register. This is not an easy battle, but we will fight”she assured.

Note that the honored personalities are: Evens Clercema, Sandy Joseph, Vanessa Dacier, Marie Sandy Sanozier, Gesny-Pierre Louis and a Chilean, Alexander Jesus Ortega. To justify these choices, the Haitian embassy in Chile stressed that these people were handpicked for their contribution to refining the name and culture of Haiti in Chile.
