A man was sentenced Thursday by British courts to four years and three months in prison for removing his condom during sex without the consent of his partner, according to police.

Guy Mukendi, 39, was accused by a young woman following a sexual encounter on May 9, 2023 in the Brixton district of south London.

She had claimed to have only consented to sexual relations on condition that he wore a condom but that he had removed it during the act.

This practice, referred to in English under the recent term “stealthing” (in French, “discreetly”, “furtively”) and still little repressed, is classified as rape in English law.

The accused denied the facts but was confused by messages where he apologized for having removed the condom, explaining that he had not had sexual relations for a long time, London police said in a press release. , calling the case a “milestone.”

“Prosecutions for this type of crime are very rare because they are not often reported,” said the Metropolitan Police.

The latter, accused in recent years of misogyny in its handling of cases of sexual assault in particular, has called on victims to denounce such acts as quickly as possible when they occur to enable the collection of evidence.
