46th-ordinary-meeting-of-heads-of-state-and-government-in-guyana:-ariel-henry-extends-his-mandate-by-more-than-one-year

Incredible but true. The de facto Haitian Prime Minister, Ariel Henry, extends his mandate until the end of 2025 with the possibility of arriving until February 7, 2026. He made this declaration at the 46th ordinary meeting of the Heads of State and Government in Georgetown when he declared his intention to organize general elections in the country no later than August 31, 2025. It was the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis who made the announcement at the end of the discussions.

Ariel Henry wants to make history by all means. Indeed, he places himself in pole position, hoping to become the first Haitian Head of Government to have led the country for a five-year term (the equivalent of a presidential mandate). His intention has been made clear to CARICOM in declaring that he will hold general elections in the country no later than August 31, 2025.

Through this declaration, he gives himself free rein to continue to act as he sees fit for another 18 months. The Prime Minister of the Bahamas who reported the news informs that an assessment team supported by the United Nations, the USA, Canada and the Organization of American States will be dispatched to Haiti to help in planning future jousting. This cell will have until March 31 to submit its report.

The Prime Minister of Antigua sees things differently.

A few hours before this declaration, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda was merciless for his Haitian counterpart. For him, the withdrawal of Ariel Henry should be a premise for the arrival of the multinational mission because, Mr. Henry is part of the problem, and, therefore, he invites the doctor to leave power in order to facilitate the resolution of the crisis.

“With all due respect, my dear friend Henry is part of the problem…we believe that Ariel Henry needs to transition and become an honest broker and enter into a power sharing agreement with others in Haiti. So it doesn’t seem like we’re trying to stabilize Haiti for its benefit to continue. Ultimately, this has virtually no legitimacy and we must be careful that this perception is not taken as the reality of the Haitian people. Which could only make the situation worse.”
