Haiti – Politics: Towards the relaunch of constitutional reform

Tuesday June 25, 2024, Presidential Advisor Smith Augustin chaired an important meeting with former Deputy Jerry Tardieu, former President of a Legislative Commission on constitutional amendments and Professor Louis Naud Pierre, pivotal member of the Independent Consultative Committee (CCI) established in place by former President Moïse.
This meeting aimed to relaunch work relating to the national conference and the constitutional question.
Main points discussed:
1 – Consultation on the establishment of the steering committee: This committee will be responsible for supervising the entire constitutional reform process, ensuring balanced representation of all stakeholders.
2 – The steps leading to a new Constitution: The speakers discussed the different necessary phases, ranging from the consolidation of work already carried out to popular consultation after the final drafting of a new constitution, including workshops and national debates.
3 – The national conference aimed at bringing together the opinions and proposals of the different sectors of national life on a new social project guaranteeing that the new Constitution reflects the overall aspirations of the Haitian people.
This meeting marks an important step towards relaunching the file of constitutional reform and the national conference as a national project which aims to be inclusive and participatory meeting the needs and expectations of the Haitian people.
