On the occasion of the celebration of the French national holiday, France renews its support for Haiti.

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the Ambassador of France to Haiti, Fabrice Mauries, organized a reception in the gardens of the Residence of France in Port-au-Prince, on the occasion of the celebration of the French national holiday, in the presence of members of the Presidential Transitional Council, Smith Augustin, Leslie Voltaire, Frinel Joseph, Laurent Saint Cyr, PM Garry Conille, several government ministers, members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Haitian political class including Claude Joseph, Marjory Michel, Jean Charles Moïse, Michel André, Maryse Narcisse and representatives of the economic, academic, arts and literature worlds.

During this ceremony, the French diplomat, Fabrice Mauries, returned to the support and solidarity of France towards Haiti over the last three years, despite the crises and risks, the strengthening of France-Haiti cooperation in matters of public security, France’s support for the deployment of a security support mission in order to help the Haitian National Police.

Further, he stressed that French humanitarian aid to Haiti has also increased sixfold during this same period, and support for free and credible elections remains the fundamental axis of France’s position in Haiti.

Speaking on behalf of the Haitian government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Dominique Dupuy, stressed that the French Revolution is universal because its ideals and the reflex of freedom that it carries are inherent to all human beings. As proof, these aspirations have become extraterritorialized and have permeated the spirit of the enslaved women and men of the colony of Saint-Domingue.

“Toussaint Louverture, master of crossroads, pioneer and leader of men of excellence, was able to grasp the universal and humanizing scope of this revolutionary thought, through the French philosopher of the Enlightenment, Abbé Reynal, and used it to motivate the enslaved, build an army with intrepid fighters like Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Sanite Bélair, and sow the seeds of the Haitian Revolution, an anti-colonial and anti-slavery revolution from 1791. Together, our two sister revolutions have changed the face of the world.” she declared, specifying that it is our duty, as worthy daughters and sons of these great revolutionaries, of France and Haiti, to continue to work, tirelessly and together, in order to obtain, everywhere and for all, the greatest good and happiness.

Regarding France’s determination to support the Haitian National Police in addressing the country’s security challenges, Dominique Dupuy, on behalf of the Haitian people, thanks the French Republic for this significant contribution.
