July 16, 2023 : its press professionals took to the concrete on Sunday, July 16, 2023 in Pétion-Ville to demand the release of Pierre-Louis Opont, co-owner of Radio Télé Pluriel, kidnapped and held captive since June 20. This march was organized at the initiative of the Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH) and SOS Journalists, and supported by the Association of Haitian Media (ANMH) and the Association of Independent Media of Haiti (AMIH).
July 16, 1932: Haitian diplomat Ulrick (Father) Duvivier dies. Born on January 30, 1867 in Cap Haitien, Ulrick Duvivier was a diplomat. He was Secretary of State for External Relations (Government of Vilbrun Guillaume Sam), Chargé d’affaires of Haiti in Havana (1911-1913) and Minister Plenipotentiary in Washington (1913-1914).
He wrote several works including “The Conflict between the Executive and Legislative Powers: Documents for History.” Paris: Kugelmann Printing Company, 1898; “Mr. Jérémie’s Book, The Effort.” Port-au-Prince: Abeille Printing Company, 1905 and “Question on the Agenda. The Expiration of General Sam’s Mandate … Open Letter.”[Kingston, Jamaïque] : s.n., 1901.
July 16, 1993: signing of a pact between the political forces represented by certain political parties and the parliamentarians at the local United Nations in New York. The signatories committed to observing a political truce in order to facilitate the peaceful return of President Aristide.
