Caribbean countries are on alert as Hurricane Beryl strengthens and becomes extremely dangerous.
Much of the southeastern Caribbean is on alert this Sunday as Beryl strengthens to become the first hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season, with forecasters predicting an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm.
The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Beryl, currently swirling in the Atlantic Ocean about 750 kilometers east of Barbados, was expected to bring life-threatening winds and storm surges when it will reach the Windward Islands early Monday.
Warning that the storm will continue to intensify rapidly, the NHC predicts it will become an “extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane” as it hits Caribbean communities.
