When was the last free, honest and credible election in Haiti?

While the crisis within the Presidential Council is struggling to resolve itself, potential candidates to lead the Prime Minister’s office are jostling at the reception villa with the idea of completing the process of submitting documents to confirm their intention.

Citizen Richmond Joseph presented himself this Monday at the Reception Villa with the required documents to confirm the participation of Smith Magny interested in occupying the position of Prime Minister of the transition. He says he has submitted 17 documents required by the Presidential Council for this process.

In his first positions, Richmond Joseph maintains that his candidate is supported by a significant section of the authorities of municipal sections (ASEC, CASEC), youth leaders. He says he is confident about the success of Smith Magny.

On the other hand, Louberson Benjamin also claims to have submitted his documents to the Council Secretariat to occupy the Prime Minister’s office. Considered a political activist suffering from dementia, Louberson “Ti Youri” Benjamin, plans to dismiss the current director general of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Frantz Elbé, once he becomes Prime Minister.

Furthermore, Dr Rudy Laurent announces that he has given up his plan to lead the Prime Minister’s Office. Residing in the United States of America, he claims to embody the hope of the Haitian diaspora. A convinced Protestant leader, Rudy Laurent pleads in favor of a united Haitian society, while emphasizing that it is a choice imposed by God.

In the meantime, the horizon seems less clear regarding the situation of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT). The choice of the former President of the Senate, Edgard Leblanc Fils as President and the announcement of the designation of the former minister Fritz Bélizaire as Prime Minister seems to divide the advisors. For the majority group, there is no question of giving in to the whims of the Lavalas, Accord Montana parties and the private business sector.
