The American justice system has postponed the sentencing of former President Donald Trump until September 18.

According to AFP, a judge postponed on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, to September 18 the sentencing of Donald Trump for having concealed payments of money to hide his silence, the first consequence of a decision of the Supreme Court on presidential immunity, pushing back the date after the Republican convention.

Hours after the verdict was announced, Trump’s legal team said in a letter to the New York court that the immunity decision vindicated Trump’s position that he should not be tried for his official actions, and reiterated its call for the conviction to be overturned.

Still according to AFPthe U.S. Supreme Court ruled Monday that Trump enjoys some immunity from prosecution as a former president, a decision that is also expected to delay his trial on charges that he conspired to overturn the 2020 election.

It should be noted that the sentencing was scheduled for July 11, 2024, a few days before the Republican National Convention on July 15, during which Donald Trump was expected to be proclaimed the party’s nominee for the presidential race against President Joe Biden.
