On Monday, July 15, 2024, Ms. Yvrose Pierre, President of the Cap-Haïtien Municipal Commission and Steve A. Mathieu, President of the Northern Chamber of Commerce (CCN), signed a historic memorandum of understanding to promote the economic and social development of the Northern region.

This memorandum of understanding aims to establish a sustainable cooperation framework for the implementation of structuring projects. The priority areas include supporting the Municipality in defining a regulatory framework for the management and development of its territory, developing a plan to improve the transport system and marketing and trade channels, promoting tourism, strengthening infrastructure and vocational training.

In her speech, Mayor Yvrose Pierre stressed that this memorandum of understanding represents a new era of collaboration, a synergy of public and private forces aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating employment opportunities and improving the quality of life of our fellow citizens.

For his part, Mathieu, President of the CCN, stated: “This partnership with the Cap-Haïtien City Hall represents a unique opportunity to stimulate the private sector and attract investment in the North department. We are committed to working hand in hand with the municipal authorities to carry out ambitious and beneficial projects for the people of Cap-Haïtien.”

The MoU also includes the establishment of a steering committee to oversee the implementation of the joint initiatives and ensure their effectiveness. This committee will be composed of members of both institutions as well as representatives of civil society.
