The government of Ariel Henry announced this Friday, February 9, 2024 that Monday 12 from noon, as well as Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 February, will be holidays throughout the national territory due to carnival festivities.

“With reference to the decree of May 23, 1989 determining, apart from national holidays, in a more precise manner the legal holidays, the Prime Minister emphasizes to the attention of agents of the public administration, of the employers of employees of the private sector, that on the occasion of the carnival festivities, public administration, commerce, industry and schools will be unemployed”, we can read in a press release consulted by our editorial staff.

It should be remembered that the previous year, the city of Port-au-Prince had organized its carnival in the morning due to power cuts and insecurity. This year, no announcement has been made by the capital’s town hall regarding possible festivities. However, in the municipalities of Delmas and Pétion-ville, groups of dancers and DJ floats began to create a festive atmosphere during pre-carnival Sundays.
