Demonstration across several communes of Haiti on Monday February 5, 2024 to continue to ask Prime Minister Ariel Henry to resign at the head of the country. This demonstration resulted in the shooting death of at least one person and the injury of three (3) others, in Les Cayes, in the south of the country.

THE HAITI FACTOR, February 5, 2024._ Intensification of street demonstrations against the Haitian Government of which Prime Minister Ariel Henry is the leader.

Indeed, after the day of mobilization organized yesterday by the Pitit Desalin Political Party, the populations of various communes of Haiti such as Port-au-Prince, Gonaïves and Les Cayes follow suit on Monday February 5, 2024.

These Haitians are returning to the streets of the aforementioned cities to continue to force the departure of Prime Minister Ariel from office on February 7. And this, according to the clauses inserted in the Political Agreement that the Head of Government initialed on December 21, 2022 with other structures in the country.

This new day of protest, which coincides with the first day of the second version of the general strike launched by the Anti-Corruption Union Brigade (BSAC) against insecurity in Haiti, ends in blood.

As proof, in the city of Les Cayes, capital of the Southern Department of Haiti, no less than four victims are to be deplored. One dead and three (3) injured by bullets, reports our correspondent, Frantzou Laguerre.

The events occurred on the Boulevard des “4 Chemins” at a time when police officers used tear gas and live bullets to disperse the crowd who only swear the resignation of the tenant of the Prime Minister, confirms our journalist who assures, under rain, coverage of the demonstration in the country’s 3rd city.

In addition to the killed protester and those injured, two (2) others were arrested by the police who accused them of “violent behavior”.

Just like the city of Les Cayes, a demonstration took place in the district of Raboteau, in Gonaïves, always with the same objective: “to demand the resignation of the head of Government”.

According to information reported by our colleague Wilno Casimir, this initiative was taken at the initiative of Winter Étienne, Spokesperson for the 2004 group of armed insurgents called “NOU SE REVOLISYONÈ RABOTEAU”.

At the end of the traditional ritual ceremony organized at the tomb of Amio METAYER known as “Cuban”, hundreds of Gonaïvians visited several corners of the City of Independence. They have been seen on the Route des Dates, in Descahos and at Parc Vincent des Gonaïves, among other areas.

Agents of the Protected Areas Security Brigade (BSAP), wearing the uniform of this body, armed with their weapons, were also seen among the crowd. Despite their presence on the course, no major incident has been reported.

In various communes in the West, notably in Port-au-Prince, Delmas and Pétion-Villes, several hundred people were also seen protesting across the street. Along their route, the protesters set up barricades and burning tires on different roads. This is the case in Delmas 32, 60, 62 and 75 and 95, among others, to express their frustration.

However, in Delmas 60, more precisely in Musseau, the police mishandled with tear gas the former Prime Minister Claude Joseph who, along with his supporters, was demonstrating in the vicinity of the Official Residence of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, located at the Reception Villa.

Despite the intervention of the police, the demonstrators had to remobilize by continuing their journey until reaching the Commune of Pétion-Ville to continue to express their frustration.
