Haiti – USA: Biden releases 10 million US to strengthen the fight against gangs in Haiti

President Joe Biden authorized the Secretary of State to tap a $10 million funding fund to procure military equipment, services and training to increase Haiti’s capacity to fight criminality.
This assistance is not the first support from the United States, but it demonstrates an ongoing partnership to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions. Targeted funds will be aimed at providing specific anti-crime and anti-narcotics assistance under Chapter 8 of Part I of the FAA’s developed framework for providing assistance.
Investment in the country’s defense capabilities could pave the way for a more secure and stable environment, a prerequisite for positive societal progress. “This decision illustrates a focused intent to dismantle the networks that fuel crime and destruction,” a senior State Department official commented on condition of anonymity.
