Haiti/Telecom: MonCash and other services linked to Digicel’s international connection unavailable for more than 24 hours

Reliance on armed criminal gangs for certain services and products leaves Haitian businesses vulnerable to operational disruptions

Millions of users of telecoms or value-added services linked to the international connection of the leading telecommunications service provider in Haiti, Digicel, have been unable, for more than 24 hours, to access and use said services. .

According to representatives of this company in Haiti, this service interruption is caused by a cut in the fiber optic link of the telecommunications network operator in the fog zone located north of the capital.

The Drouillard-National Road number 1 axis leading to Montrouis where the international optical cable of the largest multinational company operating in Haiti passes is controlled by criminal gangs, notably “Chien Mechan” and “Jeff Canaan” allied with “Izo Cinq Segond “.

However, the General Director of Digicel in a message published on his X/Twitter account declares that his technicians are seeking access to the optical fiber cutoff zone for the necessary repairs and to allow the resumption of affected services.

Note that several important services widely used by millions of Digicel customers in Haiti and the Diaspora are affected by this regrettable and unfortunate situation which disturbs and panics customers.

These include services such as Internet access, the very popular MonCash, Lisa Lotto.

MonCash, for example, is used by several million users in Haiti and abroad for money transfer services.

Today, several million gourdes are blocked in MonCash accounts and their owners do not know what course to take in this country weakened by the activities of armed criminal gangs.

Operational instability is knocking harder and harder at the doors of Haitian businesses.
