iciHaiti – Environment: Call to action for land restoration

This Wednesday, June 5, 2024, as part of the celebration of World Environment Day around the theme: “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience” and the slogan: “Our lands. Our future. We are the Restoration Generation”, the Ministry of the Environment of Haiti renews its call to action for land restoration, an essential element to combat desertification and build resilience to drought. Haiti, being particularly vulnerable to climate risks, must intensify its efforts to preserve and restore its lands.
To mark this day, several activities are planned across the country. These include awareness-raising activities in schools, conference debates and the planting of seedlings. For example, the South departmental direction will lead June 5 celebration activities in the commune of Coteaux, while the National Institute of Water Resources (INARHY) will intervene in the North and North-East departments for a set of activities in collaboration with the University of Lemonade.
In this context, INARHY, in collaboration with the Water Resilience Center (CRE), officially launched, on June 4, 2024, at the University of King Henri de Limonade, the activities planned for this celebration.
Participants enjoyed three rich interventions. Ms. Christelle Théodore, MDE executive, placed the event in its context and made a presentation on the inventory of Water Resources in Haiti; Sephammeur Louis Jean, head of the environmental sciences department at the University of Limonade, spoke to the participants about the quality of fresh water in the North-East of Haiti and Mrs. Marie Joseph A. Jean Baptiste closed the activity through a presentation on the water quality situation in Haiti, with simulations to test the quality of several water samples.
