On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, this Friday, May 3, 2024, the Organization of Citizens for a New Haiti-OCNH organized a virtual talk around the subject “Impacts of the sociopolitical and security situation in Haiti on the work of journalists”, as part of the program entitled “Defenders have their say”.

This talk aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by professionals in the journalism profession, while generating alternative solutions that could improve their working context.

As stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “Freedom of expression and freedom of information are fundamental human rights that must be respected”. Everyone has the right to receive and disseminate information and ideas by any means, including journalists whose work is crucial in the fight for justice and transparency, they must not suffer any political violence, any threats of intimidation and no act of silence and repression.

The press is a fundamental pillar in the construction of any democratic society; the authorities must guarantee its freedom and respect. Today more than ever, she deserves our admiration and our unwavering support.

On this special day, the Organization of Citizens for a New Haiti-OCNH salutes the courage of all Haitian journalists and all those who defend press freedom.
