Police officers assigned to the Departmental Unit for Maintaining Order (UDMO) of the South East began a protest movement in front of the Jacmel police station on the morning of Tuesday June 11, 2024. Their movement aims to demand the transfer of Departmental Director of the South East of the Police, Serge Allande Jolicoeur who, according to them, forces them to work in poor conditions, they declare on Caribbean radio.

THE HAITI FACTOR, June 11, 2024._Paralysis on the morning of Tuesday June 11, 2024, of activities within the Jacmel police station, capital of the South East Department of the country.

This paralysis is the result of a protest initiated by UDMO police officers who demand the transfer of the Sud’Est departmental police director, Serge Allande Jolicoeur.

To get their demands across, the protesting police officers blocked access to the premises of the building housing the Municipal Police Station.

At the microphone of journalist Élie Lorvéus, correspondent for Caribbean FM radio from the city of Jacmel, certain agents say they are making this request for transfer to the General Directorate of the (DGPNH) because of the mistreatment they have suffered from the Serge Allande Jolicoeur.

According to them, the Departmental Director of the South East Police ordered them to work for 48 hours then sleep at the police station in inhumane conditions.

« The police station has no showers or toilets, or even a dormitory,” denounce the police officers spewing their anger.

Still according to the statements of UDMO agents, Serge Allande Jolicoeur pushed them to deploy to Gressier as part of operations aimed at dismantling gangs, even though they did not have adequate equipment to confront the heavily armed bandits.

With all this in mind, the police are also demanding the dismissal of the head of the UDMO who, they say, condones the bad actions of the Sud’Est departmental police director.

« Even before the protest movement, we organized several meetings with Mr. Jolicoeur, however, he took no steps to improve the working conditions of police officers in the Department,” declare the demonstrators.

The police officers who no longer want to cohabit with Serge Allande Jolicoeur, plan to continue their movement until the High Command of the PNH decides to satisfy their demands, namely, transfer Serge Alan Jolicoeur and install in his place another Departmental Director of the police in the South East.

Otherwise, they threaten to lock the barrier and the doors of the Jacmel police station.
