An operation, carried out on Saturday April 13, 2024, by the Office for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS) in the North of Haiti, resulted in the arrest of Jean Bernard JOSEPH, a senior customs official, suspected of being involved in the arms trafficking issue at the port of Cape Town.

In an operation carried out by agents of the Bureau for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS) in northern Haiti, a senior customs official was apprehended for his alleged complicity in international trafficking in firearms and ammunition. Jean Bernard JOSEPH, head of department and supervisor at customs at the Cape Town terminal, was arrested on Saturday April 13, 2024, around 5:45 p.m.

Born on April 25, 1978 in Pétion-Ville, Joseph was identified by his national identification card number 1256170963. His arrest followed an arrest warrant issued by the Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Cap-Haitien , Me Charles Édouard DURAND, dating from April 12, 2024.

Joseph’s arrest comes as part of an investigation into the recent seizure of 26 firearms, 999 cartridges and 34 magazines at the Cap-Haïtien National Port Authority on Friday April 5, 2024.

During his arrest, the authorities also seized a Land Rover LR4 vehicle, registered DD-0540, as well as a large sum of money valued at 482,000 local gourdes and 40 US dollars.
