After the publication of the decree relating to the creation of the presidential transitional council, the American administration expressed its satisfaction and renewed its determination to work alongside Haitian leaders in resolving the crisis in Haiti.

“The United States welcomes today’s creation of a Presidential Transitional Council (TPC) in Haiti. The result of months of discussions between various Haitian stakeholders, this Council helps pave the way for free and fair elections and the accelerated deployment of a multinational security support mission.

We congratulate Haitians for their commitment to moving forward in a spirit of reconciliation and national dialogue. We remain committed to working with CARICOM and international partners to support the TPC’s mission to work for and improve the lives of all Haitians,” said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

“We commend Haitian leaders for making difficult compromises to move toward democratic governance through free and fair elections. Much work remains to be done and the United States remains committed to supporting the Haitian people,” added Mr. Miller, who recognizes that the situation is untenable in Haiti, taking into account the level of violence caused by gangs.

Shortly after the issuance of the executive order, President Joe Biden authorized the release of $60 million for Haiti. The majority of this amount will be devoted to support in terms of equipment and training in view of the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS).
