It was on the orders of the investigating judge, Merlan Bélabre, that the Secretary General of the Senate of the Republic, Marie Nelly Verpile Boyer, was arrested this Thursday, May 2, 2024. She is, according to the magistrate, involved in a corruption scheme consisting of the granting of debit cards to individuals, the hijacking of vehicles among others.

This file follows a revelation from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) which also recommended that public action be taken against former senators Joseph Lambert, Hervé Fourcand, Gracia Delva, Wanique Pierre for misappropriation of public property.

Following the arrest of Marie Nelly Verpile Boyer, some are wondering whether the Haitian justice system is truly applying a policy of double standards. Some people want to believe that certain people are “untouchable”.
