May 31, 2013 : dozens of cholera victims, at the initiative of the collective for the compensation of cholera victims (Comodevic) and Moun viktim kolera, demonstrate in the streets of Port-au-Prince to demand justice and reparation. They also criticized the laxity of the Haitian government in respecting citizens’ rights.
May 31, 1953 : coronation of Mgr. Remy Augustin. First Haitian bishop and first black bishop born and residing outside the African continent, Mgr. Rémy Augustin, auxiliary of the archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, was appointed to this position by Pope Pius XII on April 8, 1953. Exiled in 1961 after having briefly been the administrator of the Archbishopric of Port-au-Prince, he returned to Haiti in 1966 and became titular bishop of Port-de-Paix.
May 31, 2013 : the UN Secretary-General announces the appointment of Ms. Sandra Honoré, of Trinidad and Tobago, as his Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). She replaced Mariano Fernández Amunátegui of Chile, who completed his term on January 31, 2013.

May 31, 2017 : the Francophone Environmental Action Group (GAFE) is launching a three-day national symposium dedicated to strengthening the capacities of Haitian civil society organizations.
