This Monday, July 8, 2024, Me Lionel Constant Bourgouin officially took office as the new Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince. During his installation, Bourgouin firmly emphasized: “Our Public Prosecutor’s Office will not be a polyclinic or even a boutique.”

This statement marks a desire to redefine the roles and responsibilities of the prosecution service under his leadership. The installation ceremony was chaired by Jean Fanel Bazelais, representative of the Minister of Justice and Security, Me Carlos Hercule, who provided advice to the new commissioner while setting out the ministry’s expectations.

In his speech, Mr. Bourgouin expressed his awareness of the challenges ahead and requested the collaboration of the Haitian National Police to inform him of all offenses in the jurisdiction. He also assured the lawyers of the Port-au-Prince Bar that his prosecution will apply the law impartially, without favoritism.

Members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Acting Director General of the Haitian National Police, as well as several executives from the prosecution service, attended this installation ceremony, marking the beginning of a new era for the Port-au-Prince prosecution service.
