A contingent of 200 Kenyan police officers arrived in Haiti on Tuesday to participate in the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS).
Upon their arrival this Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, they were greeted by the Director General of the Haitian National Police (PNH), Rameau Normil, and members of the PNH High Command.
Rameau Normil expressed his satisfaction with the arrival of this second contingent, stressing the importance of their support within the framework of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS).
Kenya has pledged to send 1,000 police officers for the mission, which is scheduled to last until October 2025. The MMSS will also include contributions from Bangladesh, Benin, Chad, the Bahamas and Barbados, bringing the total to 2,500 officers.
The Kenyan contingent includes police from several elite units, including the anti-terrorist Recce Squad, known for its intervention during attacks by Somali Islamist al-Shabaab in Kenya, including those on Garissa University in 2015 and the Westgate shopping malls in 2013 and Dusit in 2019.
