The Ministry of Communication through a press release, published on Saturday April 27, 2024, informs that the nine members of the Presidential Transitional Council have chosen the date of Tuesday April 30 to elect the president of the CPT. This election will take place at 10 a.m. at the prime minister’s office, in the presence of journalists and representatives of the signatory sectors of the political agreement which led to the creation of the CPT.
According to the note from the Ministry of Communication, the nine Presidential Councilors, at the end of their discussions, decided to form an electoral office composed of three members, including two non-voting members of the CPT and a third member, who will be drawn by lot on polling day among members of voting sectors not having a candidate.
A document adopted by the President-Advisors specified that the presidency of the electoral office would be ensured by one of the non-voting members of the CPT, chosen by consensus on election day.
The document entitled “Mechanism applicable to the election of the President of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT)” states: “If a candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes (4/7), he is declared the winner. In the event of a second round, the vote must be taken for one or the other candidate, in accordance with article 7 of the draft decree. The same voting procedure will be applied. »
