The gangs took control,Monday, April 1, 2024, from the State University Hospital of Haiti (HUEH), to make it their headquarters in order to launch attacks against the police.
While the Executive Director of the hospital, Dr. Jude Milcé, had initially planned to reopen the doors that same day after a tumultuous period marked by clashes between members of the “Viv ansanm” coalition and the forces of the order, thus paralyzing the hospital since last Thursday, March 2. However, instead of finding peace and necessary medical care, the hospital found itself in the hands of criminals. The latter dared to use this place as a starting point to attack the National Palace, but the police intervened.
The bandits then extended their wave of destruction to other institutions, looting and attempting to set fire to the National Library. The Collège St-Martial Minor Seminary was also the target of these criminals, who set fire to the computer room and ravaged the library. Many vehicles were destroyed during these events.
