Three police officers killed, an armored vehicle set on fire in Delmas 18: the DGPNH condemns this act and announces the opening of an investigation
The General Directorate of the National Police of Haiti (DGPNH) in a note published this Monday, June 10, 2024, strongly condemned this odious act, paying tribute to the fallen police officers, described as “valiant” for their constant commitment in dangerous situations. She also assured that measures will be taken to do justice and honor their memory.
According to this note, an investigation was immediately opened to shed light on the circumstances of this tragedy and determine responsibilities. The results will be communicated to the public as soon as they are available, underlined the DGPNH.
The Haitian National Police (PNH) experienced a dark day on Sunday June 9. Three police officers were killed in an ambush by armed bandits in Delmas 18. Led by notorious gang leader Jimmy Cherizier, alias “Barbecue”this attack also resulted in the burning of a PNH armored vehicle and the theft of several weapons.
The incident took place while the UTAG team was on board their armored vehicle. Trapped by the attackers, two police officers were killed on the spot. The rapid arrival of reinforcements allowed the evacuation of two other police officers, but one of them succumbed to his injuries in hospital, the PNH note said.
