As a sine qua non condition for the resumption of flights to Haiti, the airlines had demanded the demolition of the houses located near the Toussaint Louverture international airport. Since Monday April 8, 2024, the Haitian state has committed to demolishing slums while compensating their owners.

Indeed, according to available information, more than 300 million gourdes to compensate the owners of the houses have already been taken from the Public Treasury. In total, 183 houses were built near the airport, Métronome reports, stressing that for the moment, 20 of them have been demolished.

In addition, the majority of owners compensated between 500 thousand and 32 million gourdes.
