Slowing down the impacts of aging thanks to a cream is a promise that makes you dream… and sell! But, are anti-wrinkle creams really effective? We tell you everything.

Creams of questionable effectiveness

Anti-wrinkle creams promise to limit the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of age as much as possible. However, their effectiveness is often questioned.

Thus, the magazine 60 Million consumers published a study in which they were compared ten creams present on our shelves. Alone two were found to be effective. And in fact, there are no miracle products, it is above all the moisturizing property products that allowed them to delay the appearance of wrinkles.

Laurence Soiffard, professor of cosmetology, interviewed by France Info explains: “The effectiveness of this type of cream is really proven in relation to hydration. […] There is no such thing as making established wrinkles disappear with cosmetics.”

So, the promises of this type of cream are more marketing. Also, keep in mind that the most expensive creams are not not always the best.

Choose your moisturizer wisely

A good moisturizer, applied daily, helps prevent skin drying and aging. You still have to choose it correctly!

According to UFC Que Choisir, there are certain ingredients in moisturizing creams to avoid. “Among the molecules that we consider undesirable in cosmetics, several were found in facial creams in our test. If the dreaded methylisothiazolinone has been banned, we often find substances suspected of endocrine disruption such as salicylic acid or cyclopentasiloxaneindicates the consumer guide.

It would also be better to opt for a product in a tube rather than a jar. Opening the latter would tend to allow bacteria present on the fingers or in the air to enter. There are applications like QuelProduit or Yuka which inform you about the correct composition of your cream.
