Did you know that alcohol is just as bad for your teeth as sugar? Strange but true: alcohol can cause as much damage to your teeth as cigarettes!

Don’t let alcohol ruin your smile: learn about its harmful effects on your teeth and how to protect yourself.

Oral health: alcohol, an unsuspected enemy?

Alcohol, consumed excessively and regularly, attacks your teeth and gums in several ways:

  • Enamel erosion : the acidity of alcohol wears away the enamel, the protective layer of your teeth. They become more sensitive to cold, heat and sugars, and the acidity weakens them against cavities.
  • Gum disease : Alcohol disrupts the balance of bacteria in the mouth, promoting the proliferation of harmful ones. These serious diseases can occur as inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) which, if left untreated, can develop into periodontitis, a serious infection that destroys the bone that supports the teeth.
  • Caries : Alcohol creates an acidic environment that is conducive to the growth of cavity-causing bacteria. These bacteria feed on the sugars in food and produce acids that attack the enamel, creating painful cavities.
  • Mouth cancer : Alcohol, especially when combined with tobacco, is a major risk factor for oral cancer. It irritates and damages the tissues of the mouth, promoting the appearance of lesions that can develop into cancerous tumors.

Adopt moderate consumption

Limiting your alcohol intake is the best way to protect your teeth. If you do drink alcohol, do so in moderation and opt for water, tea or coffee without sugar to stay hydrated.

Don’t forget good oral hygiene:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes, using a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
  • Use dental floss daily to clean between teeth, where the toothbrush can’t reach.
  • Rinse yourself mouth regularly with a fluoride mouthwash, especially after drinking alcohol.
  • Consult your dentist regularly for a check-up and scaling.
  • Taking care of your teeth is taking care of your health.

By practicing good oral hygiene and limiting your alcohol consumption, you can preserve your smile and your overall health.

do not wait any longer : take action today for healthy teeth!
