Port-au-Prince April 28, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The vote for the appointment of the president of the Presidential Transition Council (Cpt) will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. (2:00 p.m. GMT) in the Welcome Village (east sector), announces a official press release consulted by AlterPresse.

The operation will be carried out “with total transparency” in the presence of the press and representatives of the signatory sectors of the political agreement that creates the Cpt, the statement states.

The decision was adopted during a meeting, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, among the members of the organization, in order to decide, among other things, on the process leading to the election of the Councilor who will serve as President of the Cpt.

The President Councilors, at the end of their discussions, agreed to create an electoral office, composed of three members, two of them without the right to vote and a third, chosen by lot, on election day, among the members of the sectors. voters who have no candidate.

According to the adopted document, the presidency of the electoral office will be ensured by one of the non-voting members of the CPT, elected by consensus on election day.

This step has been expected since the day of the installation of the Presidential Transition Council, Thursday, April 25, 2024.

For public opinion, it is estimated that every minute counts in this 22-month mandate, which should lead to the inauguration of the elected leaders on February 7, 2026, while the general situation is catastrophic, especially with regard to safety.

The 9 members of the Council recognized that they will have to face immense challenges, as they expressed, during the ceremony held on April 25, 2024 in the Welcome Village, on the occasion of their installation.

“Today is only the first day of work necessary to restore order, discipline, peace and conditions favorable to the creation of wealth in this battered country,” declared Régine Abraham, who spoke at this ceremony on behalf of the 9 members of the Presidential Transition Council.
