P-to-P, April 24, 2024 [AlterPresse] — Several service vehicles from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (Fmp), almost all the solar panels, electrical equipment and the cafeteria of the institution were taken away by armed individuals, on the night of Saturday 20 to Sunday April 21, 2024, deplores the Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (Rueh), in a note dated Monday April 22, 2024, of which the online agency AlterPresse became aware.

The systematic attacks against Ueh entities hit by the wave of insecurity orchestrated for some time in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince “are unacceptable and incomprehensible”, castigates the Rectorate, while condemning the acts of vandalism and of looting perpetrated against the premises of the recently rebuilt FMP.

These acts committed against the faculty premises of the Fmp “were continued during the day of Sunday April 21 and were still continuing at the time we wrote this note”.

This heritage represented by this entity of the Ueh has trained and continues to train high-level health professionals serving all levels of the population, argues Rueh.

The toll of the damage, which is to be assessed, risks being simply unbearable, he believes.

“The State University of Haiti is the main provider of qualified human resources in the country. In this sense, it belongs to the whole nation,” he recalls, while wondering, perplexed, who has an interest in destroying the largest public university center in the country?

The Rectorate of Ueh recently deplored the fire, on Thursday March 28, 2024, on avenue Monseigneur Guilloux (downtown Port-au-Prince), of at least six (6) classrooms in the premises of the École Normale Supérieure (Ens), the main public university center for training secondary school teachers.

The fire, on Thursday March 28, 2024, at avenue Monseigneur Guilloux (downtown Port-au-Prince),

“Many windows of the buildings of the Faculty of Sciences (Fds) of the Ueh were broken. Solar panels for televisions as well as equipment from various educational or research laboratories have disappeared,”during acts of vandalism and looting, perpetrated, on the evening of Sunday March 9 to Monday March 10, 2024, by armed gangs at the FDSlocated at the corner of avenue Monseigneur Guilloux and rue Joseph Janvier in Port-au-Prince.

A significant quantity of materials necessary for the operation of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (Famv) of the Ueh, including many solar panels, computers and printers, were taken away by armed gangs, during a new attack perpetrated on Thursday February 29, 2024 against the premises of the said institutionaccording to a partial assessment of Rueh.
