An atmosphere of tension reigned this Friday, March 1, 2024 in the metropolitan region of Port-au-Prince, particularly in Delmas, where barricades and burning tires were erected on the roadway. These incidents occur the day after the death of four police officers at the Bon Repos sub-police station.

On social networks, in the streets and during discussions, the anger is palpable on the faces of fellow citizens outraged by the death of the four police officers at the Bon Repos sub-police station, including two female police officers.

To express their discontent and demand the departure of Ariel Henry who is committed to organizing elections in August 2025 at the latest, demonstrators reached the Delmas highway and burned tires in front of the Electricité D’Haïti (EDH ) by Delmas 45.

On each major axis, protesters erected barricades on the roadway and set tires on fire. Stones were thrown along the highway, making traffic almost impossible.

Some businesses that tried to open their doors quickly increased their security for fear of being attacked. Many public and private sector employees also rushed home.

At the Champs de Mars and Rue St Honnoré, the police and armed bandits clashed for hours. At least one dead observed in the streets.

In Lalue, dozens of police officers gathered to go to the General Directorate of the National Police of Haiti to make their demands heard. They demand adequate equipment to fight against armed bandits. Most of the police officers were in uniform and mounted on motorcycles.

According to Gary Jean Baptiste, speaking on Caribbean FM, the four police officers spent more than three hours calling for reinforcements, in vain. The spokesperson for SPNH 17 expresses his incomprehension at the fact that a large number of police officers are available to secure the demonstrations, but when it comes to reinforcements for their colleagues, they are nowhere to be found.

Jean Baptiste believes that the atmosphere of chaos observed in Port-au-Prince yesterday Thursday had only one objective: “to expose the Haitian National Police by highlighting its weaknesses to justify the deployment of the Multinational Mission in the country. »

Marion Junior, Pierre Luciana, Jean Baptiste Guilliamson and Pautrace Resula, from the 32nd promotion of agents, are among the police officers victims of this armed attack, claimed by the soldiers of gang leader Jeff de Canaan.

Scenes of terror here

Yesterday in Port-au-Prince was marked by scenes of terror, with gunshot wounds and internally displaced people recorded. In addition, bandits set fire to the Portail-Leogane sub-police station before surging and parading through the streets of the city.

At Toussaint Louverture airport, a wave of panic also blew. Three planes and installations were hit by projectiles. Travelers and employees panicked. This situation has led airlines to suspend their flights. The students were not spared from this day of terror. Those from Saint Martial had to lie down on the ground to escape stray bullets.

During a press briefing this Friday, gang leader Jimmy Chérisier aka Barbecue announces that he will attack members of the government of Ariel Henry and his allies. He cites by name the Minister of Planning Ricard Pierre, Michel André, Marjorie Michelle Rosemila Petit-Frère and Edmonde S. Beauzile.
