iciHaiti – Humanitarian: Supply of essential supplies increasingly difficult

“Provision of essential supplies, including food and medicine, becomes more and more difficult with the international airport closed, the main ports operating “at a minimum” and the roads leading to the Haitian capital blocked and controlled by gangs.
Fuel availability has also become an urgent issue, with black market prices and transport costs soaring,” says the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Despite ongoing unrest and attacks by armed groups in Haiti, the World Food Program (WFP) has stepped up its operations to help communities affected by the violence. Tuesday April 23, 2024, WFP and its partners distributed 3,000 hot meals to displaced people in Port-au-Prince. They also provided 216,000 school meals containing fresh local vegetables in other departments, and 5,000 food rations in the south of the country.
Since the beginning of March, WFP and its local partners have distributed more than 746,000 hot meals to more than 89,000 people who have had to flee because of the violence in Port-au-Prince. Many children and women, forced to leave home, work or school, rely on this support.
